I have founded my life on fearless speech - the result of years of early training by Jesuits and a lifetime as a left wing political animal and Irish Catholic parents who by nature resist authority and fight for the underdog. However as a habit it causes issues. The world is predicated upon manners which hide the truth as a modus operandi. As a white woman in black Africa, not many want to hear the truth particularly when it bucks current political trends, entrenched viewpoints, race and gender issues. Do you keep quiet or become known as a trouble maker. Yes the truth does have an instictive resonance of its own, a Universal Bell and one has to have the arrogance if you will to believe that your universal truth is right. Is this only the truth as you see it or is it the truth of God, of compassion, of righteousness, of charity or of faith. What about the different truths of different faiths? Is this a mistake of historical rendition in the Holy Texts which are man made and decided upon by a group of clerics thousands of years ago or does it exist independently of the written word. Does it depend on one's conscience and what if this differs from culture to culture?
